Meet Dr. Brian Smith

Hurdling the High Jump

Dr. Smith hurdeling the high jump.

Dr. Smith was a letter-winning athlete in college.

Growing up in Sayreville, NJ, Dr. Smith was an athlete in junior high and high school. Running track, he often read about how professional athletes used chiropractic care to help them heal and improve their performance. Then, as a letter-winning senior high jumper at Rutgers University, he injured his lower back.

Dr. Smith saw a chiropractor who helped him heal and get back on the field, allowing him to earn four varsity letters as a high jumper. He graduated from Rutgers with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry.

Healing Through Chiropractic and More

Dr. Smith’s healing experience with his chiropractor sparked an interest in chiropractic care as a career. He chose to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, graduating with honors in 1990. He remembers being surprised to learn the chiropractic philosophy of how your body can heal itself and still teaches this philosophy to his patients today.

In order to educate and support his patients in all aspects of their life, Dr. Smith has furthered his education to help patients like you heal fully.

A Family Man

Married since 1995 to his wonderful wife Maria, together they are raising their two fantastic children, Tommy and Jude. Dr. Smith had been visiting the Manahawkin area since he was a kid and when Maria got a job as the head fundraiser at the local hospital he decided to open Southern Ocean Chiropractic here in Manahawkin.

Hurricane Sandy has affected many of those in the community and even the neighborhood next to Southern Ocean Chiropractic. Just 50 yards away from the front doors, the neighborhood was blocked off due to damage. Thankfully, the storm stayed about a quarter of a mile away from the practice’s building.

When Dr. Smith is outside of the office, he spends as much time as possible with his family, supporting their sporting events and activities. He also is certified to teach the Volunteer Coaches Safety Course for little league and other local sports teams.
